Online art programme encourages frontline forces against COVID-19

An online art program entitled “Chay len” (Burn up) was held simultaneously in five locations in Hanoi on the evening of August 1, namely Vietnam National Drama Theatre, Vietnam Contemporary Art Theatre, Vietnam Cheo (Traditional Opera) Theatre, Vietnam Circus Federation, and Vietnam National Music Song and Dance Theatre.

The event is the first shot of a series of virtual art programmes under the theme “Sharing love, overcoming the pandemic” - a crosscutting theme for all online programmes during this period, aimed at fuelling the frontline forces against the pandemic as well as offering audiences nationwide an additional spiritual dish amidst the social distancing context.

The programme was organised by the Department of Performing Art under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, with Director of the Vietnam National Drama Theatre Meritorious Artist Xuan Bac assuming the role of MC.

It featured a range of unique and diverse art repertoires, both traditional and modern, delivered by singers, musicians and artists from the five units mentioned above.

Musician Do An from the Vietnam National Music Song and Dance Theatre introduced the song “Chien binh nho” (Little Warrior), a work on doctors, with the desire to extend words of sharing to medical workers and other forces who are racing agains the clock to contain the pandemic and take care of patients.

The programme was broadcast live on the Youtube and Fanpage channels of the Department of Performing Arts, the website of the online newspaper Toquoc.vn, and the Youtube and Facebook channels of Meritorious Artist Xuan Bac.

Directing the implementation of the programme, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong stated that the series of online art programmes “Sharing love, overcoming the pandemic” carries great significance, contributing to encouraging the spirit of both frontline forces and the people in the COVID-19 fight, towards promptly pushing back the pandemic in the country.

According to the organisers, the series is expected to feature a total of 12 programmes.
